  1. Do not edit this page directly, copy it instead then edit your copy.
  2. The copy button is in the bar at the top of your browser window, under the tab "PAGE: Product page template v2".
Select copy then name your new page to something unique, like "Product page <Institution or Group> 1".
  3. Delete this Important section of text.

Title notes:

  1. Expand all acronyms in the parameter name and algorithm. If an acronym is in common usage then add this in brackets after the expanded version. Sensor acronym names should not be expanded.
  2. See the Product Table page for examples.
  3. Copy the same name into the Title box above the page editor text box.
  4. Delete this Title notes section of text.

Add an image that is representative of the data product.
To add an image:

  1. Click on the image;
    1. Select 'Image - Attached Image...' from menu above.
    2. Click on 'Upload new image' then the 'Select' button.
    3. Browse to your new image.
    4. Click on 'Insert image'.
  2. Add some caption text.
  3. Delete this Add an image section of text.

Link to the data

DescriptorData linkLayer name
Dataset digital object identifier (DOI)

GeoNetwork record

  1. Add the layer name for all GeoServer links, or if otherwise applicable.
  2. If there data are not yet available on a server then either write the server name that the data will likely appear at (unlinked, users will figure it out) or add text like "Not available yet".
  3. In most case, give the full URL as the text label of the link as this helps users understand what they are clicking on.
  4. Delete this Notes section of text.

Data licence and Access rights

RightsCopyright 2008-2012 CSIRO. Rights owned by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Rights licensed subject to Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY).
LicenceCreative Commons Attribution 3.0 License,
AccessThese data can be freely downloaded and used subject to the CC BY licence. Attribution and citation is required as described at We ask that you send us citations and copies of publications arising from work that use these data.

  1. The above represent example statements. The structure and words are important but you will have to edit them, for example to replace CSIRO as the relevant organisation in the Rights section.
  2. Rights is a formal/legal statement.
    • The year should be the first year that the dataset was published. Use a year range where an update has been made to the dataset. The example above suggests that the dataset was first released in 2008 and the most recent update was in 2012.
    • Replace the CSIRO acronym and full name with the name of your (or the) institution that is claiming rights over the dataset. In general, AusCover and TERN will not claim rights over a dataset.
    • Amend the CC BY license if a different licence is being used and ensure this matches the Licence section.
    • Finally, add any additional terms or conditions such as a requirement for a third-party attribution. See MCD12Q1 for an example.
  3. Licence gives the proper name for the licence that applies to the dataset.
    • CC BY is the default licence that AusCover have chosen to promote because it provides for the widest range of possible uses for the dataset into the future. For a selection of other licences see the TERN data licensing page at
  4. Access is a less formal statement that is intended to make things easier for the potential data user.
    • Ensure the licence specified and the brief details are consistent with the Licence section.
    • The reference to the AusCover citation page should be retained.
    • Repeat any third-party attributions, terms or conditions as given in the Rights section. See MCD12Q1 for an example.
  5. Please ask if you have any questions regarding data licences and these statements.
  6. Delete this Notes section of text.

Alternate title [optional]

An alternate title can be added here. This can be a longer or less structured title than the product title.

Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate - Interim Implementation (MACC-II)

MACC Project overview:

  1. Replace the first paragraph ("An alternate title....the product title") with the alternate title.
  2. Alternate title is not mapped to RIF-CS but it can be added to the corresponding GeoNetwork record.
  3. Delete this Notes section of text and the [optional] part of the heading, or delete this Alternate title section if unused.

Abstract or Summary

A short description of the product that can be understood by a person not familiar with remote sensing. It should be a summary of the entire metadata record and contain what, why, where, when and how.

  1. Replace the first block of text ("A short description....when and how.") with the product abstract.
  2. Delete this Notes section of text.

Spatial and Temporal extents

Spatial resolution (metres)(nadir pixel size for a remote sensing product)
Spatial coverage (degrees)(north, south, east, west extents)
Temporal resolution(8 day, monthly, etc)
Temporal coverage(start yyyy-mm-dd, end yyyy-mm-dd or "ongoing")
Sensor & platform(MODIS Terra&Aqua, Landsat 5&7, Field instrument or site)
Spatial representation typeOne of "grid" or "vector" (grid doesn't have to mean gridded. Its more about what system the lat/longs are encoded to)
Spatial reference systemWGS 84

Point of contact

RoleOne of "pointOfContact", "author", "principleInvestigator"
AddressOptional (physical or postal)
TelephoneOptional (+61 X YYYY YYYY)

  1. Point(s) of contact for the resource, e.g. author(s), principle investigator(s) and/or a generic point of contact for an organisation.
  2. Copy and edit the table for each contact.
  3. The first five rows (Name - Role) are mandatory.
  4. Delete this Notes section of text.

Credit [optional]

List of organisations and people who, although not direct authors or points of contact, did contribute to the product.

  1. Replace the first block of text ("List of the product.") with the Credit statement.
  2. The Credit statement is not mapped to RIF-CS but it can be added to the corresponding GeoNetwork record.
  3. Delete this Notes section of text and the [optional] part of the heading, or delete this Credit section if unused.

FoREnvironmental Sciences > Ecological Applications = 0501

There are three main thesauri that AusCover recommends:

  1. Global Change Master Directory (
  2. Climate and Forecast (CF) convention standard names (
  3. Fields of Research codes (

  1. Replace the example GCMD and CF keywords.
  2. Multiple keywords can be used, one per row.
  3. TERN recommends only two levels for the FoR keywords. The FoR keyword (Ecological Applications) has been selected to cover most AusCover products.
  4. Retain the explanatory paragraph with the links ("There are three....).
  5. Delete this Notes section of text.

Data quality

Data quality statements or summaries of data quality issues affecting the data. Summary of the uncertainty of the product, caveats and algorithm limitations. Data completeness, temporal and spatial gaps.

  1. Replace the first block of text ("Data quality statements....and spatial gaps.") with the product quality statement(s).
  2. Delete this Notes section of text.

Validation status

Detail procedures or work undertaken to validate the products. Include references to reports (full reference information can be added in the Reference section). If no validation has yet been done, detail how one might validate the product.

  1. Replace the first block of text ("Detail procedures or....validate the product.") with the product validation status.
  2. Delete this Notes section of text.
